Executive Assistant

The Law Offices of Julianne M. Holt, Hillsborough County Public Defender is accepting applications for an Executive Assistant.

We are seeking highly motivated applicants interested in public service for an executive level administrative assistant opportunity in our criminal defense law firm. Qualified applicants will be expected to provide high-level administrative legal support as well as the ability to perform a variety of complex tasks requiring independent judgment/action and make frequent decisions in accordance with organizational policies and procedures. Tasks include criminal casework including: scheduling hearings, filing pleadings, maintaining electronic case files and coordinating depositions as well as other clerical functions such as handling confidential information, preparing correspondence, receiving visitors, answering phone inquiries, scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, and preparing meeting notes or minutes. In addition to clerical duties and responsibilities, active participation in community service events, internal employee motivation activities, and office related functions is essential to the position.

Applicants must also communicate effectively, professionally and have excellent computer/technology skills. 3-5 years prior experience as a mid-to senior-level legal assistant or related experience as an administrative assistant and post-secondary education preferred.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Felony Jury Trial Attorney

The Law Offices of Julianne M. Holt, Hillsborough County Public Defender is accepting applications for a Felony Jury Trial Attorney.

Prior felony jury trial experience required.

You must have a strong desire to learn how to be an excellent trial attorney and serve our indigent community. We are a teaching office with structured training programs, facilitated by highly-skilled trial attorneys. We train our attorneys to try cases before juries. We do this through classroom training, deliberate-practice exercises, and mentorship at trial. We are seeking attorneys who can critically analyze cases, file meritorious motions, and zealously advocate for our clients.

Candidate must be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Entry Level Jury Trial Attorney

No prior experience required.

Attorney - Forensic Behavioral Health Unit

The Law Offices of Julianne M. Holt, Hillsborough County Public Defender is accepting applications for a specialty attorney practicing in civil and criminal mental health and intellectual disability cases of indigent persons accused of crimes or subject to Baker Act proceedings. The attorney will be a part of our Forensic Behavioral Health Unit (FBHIU). The position also includes litigation in mental health, veterans, drug treatment and other problem-solving courts as well as advocacy for the decriminalization of behavioral health issues and diversion. Subject matter expertise is preferred and long-term commitment is expected. Salary is commensurate with experience. Candidate must be a member in good standing with The Florida Bar.

Support Staff (Licensed Clinical Social Worker)

In your role as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker you will be an integral part of the defense team that has been tasked with the representation of individuals charged with a criminal law violation or facing civil commitment pursuant to Florida Statutes.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

The application of clinical specialties to the legal arena by providing clinical assessments to identify mental health and developmental disorders and how these disorders are relevant to criminal law, civil mental health, and developmental disability status. Conduct testing to determine intellectual disability, rule-in/out malingering, MMPI developmental immaturity, and the ability of a juvenile to waive Miranda Rights, as well as identify and evaluate competency.
