Division Chief - Misdemeanor Division

The Law Offices of Julianne M. Holt, Public Defender for the 13th Judicial Circuit (Hillsborough County) is seeking applications for the position of Misdemeanor Division Chief. The ideal applicant will possess significant jury trial experience in both county and circuit court, including experience litigating DUI and traffic cases. The Misdemeanor Division Chief will oversee a team of 15 to 20 attorneys and work closely with the bureau chief and Public Defender. We are a teaching office with a structured training program. We do this through classroom training, deliberate-practice exercises and mentorship at trial. Our ideal applicant will possess excellent organizational skills, teaching ability, and communication and interpersonal relationship skills. The applicant must have the ability to leverage their own litigation experience to develop attorneys into excellent misdemeanor trial attorneys while also preparing them for the future in our felony bureau. Ability to model and teach professional behavior is essential. Candidate must be in in good standing with the Florida Bar.

Attorney - Forensic Behavioral Health Unit

The Law Offices of Julianne M. Holt, Hillsborough County Public Defender is accepting applications for a specialty attorney practicing in civil and criminal mental health and intellectual disability cases of indigent persons accused of crimes or subject to Baker Act proceedings. The attorney will be a part of our Forensic Behavioral Health Unit (FBHIU). The position also includes litigation in mental health, veterans, drug treatment and other problem-solving courts as well as advocacy for the decriminalization of behavioral health issues and diversion. Subject matter expertise is preferred and long-term commitment is expected. Salary is commensurate with experience. Candidate must be a member in good standing with The Florida Bar.

Support Staff (Licensed Clinical Social Worker)

In your role as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker you will be an integral part of the defense team that has been tasked with the representation of individuals charged with a criminal law violation or facing civil commitment pursuant to Florida Statutes.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
The application of clinical specialties to the legal arena by providing clinical assessments to identify mental health and developmental disorders and how these disorders are relevant to criminal law, civil mental health, and developmental disability status. Conduct testing to determine intellectual disability, rule-in/out malingering, MMPI developmental immaturity, and the ability of a juvenile to waive Miranda Rights, as well as identify and evaluate competency.
